Giving Back: Helping Physicians Transition

Throughout this journey, I’ve often been asked, “How did you do it?” That question has led me

to mentor, consult, and guide other physicians who are exploring non-clinical or corporate career

paths. Through phone calls, informal lunches, and ongoing conversations, I’ve helped others

envision and navigate their own transitions beyond traditional clinical practice

My Journey

Roadmap of My Transition to Non-Clinical Leadership

Every step along the way contributed to my development as a physician executive and ultimately to my transition into full-time non-clinical medicine.

System wide-Physician Advisor — Hospital Administration, Large Dallas Health System

My first full-time non-clinical role was as a System Physician Advisor supporting seven hospitals and helping standardize Utilization Management across facilities. I was fortunate to be mentored by three seasoned executives—a hospital president and two senior vice presidents— each offering different perspectives on leadership, strategy, and influence.

Key Successes

• Collaborated cross-functionally with executive leaders across the system

• Built strong relationships through intentional conversations, lunches, and mentorship

• Implemented UM structure and partnered with case management to improve hospital operations and health care quality.

Next Step: Managed Care — “The Payor Side”

I transitioned to UnitedHealthcare in a fully remote role where I learned the operational framework of the payer environment: prior authorization, concurrent review, specialty pharmacy, and post-acute management.

Executive Leadership: Managed Care Organization (MCO)

My next move was into an executive role within an MCO, continuing to expand my leadership scope and influence across clinical operations, strategy, and team development
